Calibre is incredible. But on mobile…

You have thousands of books in Calibre. But reading them on your phone? That's where it falls apart.

📵

No mobile app

Calibre-Web is clunky on phones. There's no native mobile reader. Your library is stuck on your desktop.

🤖

Robotic TTS

System text-to-speech sounds terrible. You want to listen, but the voices are unbearable for more than 5 minutes.

🔌

No offline reading

No good way to save your books for offline reading. Commuting underground? Forget it.

MimicReader fixes all of that.

One app for reading, listening, and translating your entire ebook library.

📱

Read anywhere — even offline

Beautiful mobile reader as a PWA. Install on your phone's home screen. Paginated reading with adjustable fonts, dark mode, chapter navigation. Tap "Save offline" — read on the underground, on a flight, anywhere.

🎧

Listen, don't just read

AI narration that actually sounds human. Emotion detection, proper pacing, 23 languages. Download the audiobook as M4A — keep it forever. No DRM, no lock-in.

🔌

One-click from Calibre

Right-click a book in Calibre → "Send to MimicReader". Or use the toolbar / Ctrl+Shift+M. Books upload instantly and appear ready to read or listen.

📁

Sync your entire library

One click syncs all your books to your phone — ~30 MB of metadata + ~400 MB of optimized cover thumbnails. The actual ebook files (typically several GB) stay on your PC. Tap "Listen" on any book and the file flows on demand — never a silent background upload.

🔒

Your books stay yours

Privacy-first. Your books are in your private account. Delete any time. We never share or sell your content. You control your library.

How it works

Two ways to use the plugin — pick one or use both.

Option A — Send a book

1

Install the plugin

Free Calibre plugin. Load from file in Calibre's plugin manager. Windows, Mac, Linux.

2

Right-click & send

Right-click any book → "Send to MimicReader". Or toolbar button / Ctrl+Shift+M. Files upload automatically.

3

Read & listen

Open mimicreader.ai on any device. Your book is there. Generate an audiobook with one tap, or read it directly.

Option B — Sync your entire library

Tested end-to-end on a real 27,000-book Calibre library — sync completes, search stays instant, on-demand fetch works.

1

Sync once (~430 MB)

Toolbar → "Sync library catalog". Plugin uploads ~30 MB of metadata (titles, authors, tags, languages) plus ~400 MB of optimized cover thumbnails. Ebook files themselves stay on your PC.

2

Browse on your phone

Open mimicreader.ai → Library → Calibre tab. Search, filter by author, series, tags. Your whole catalog in your pocket.

3

Listen on demand

Tap "Listen" on any book — the plugin (running on your PC) automatically uploads that file. Audiobook ready in minutes. Your ebook files stay on your PC until you actively want a particular book.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Every account gets 1 free hour of AI audio generation per month. Reading ebooks is always free with no limits. Additional audio is pay-as-you-go starting from £1 per hour. Credits never expire.

EPUB, PDF, MOBI, FB2, and plain text files. The Calibre plugin will handle format conversion automatically before sending. You can also browse 100,000+ free books from Project Gutenberg, Open Library, and more.

Your uploaded books are stored in your private account. Only you can access them. You can delete them at any time. We never share, sell, or use your content for training. You are responsible for having the rights to the books you upload.

Yes. ~1,500 lines of Python across 5 small files (ui, main, sync, poller, update_check) — unzip and read it yourself. Five things only: send a book on demand, sync metadata when you ask, listen for "fetch this book" requests from your account, push covers, check daily for plugin updates. No tracking, no analytics, no hidden network calls.

Two scenarios, both opt-in: (1) Send a book — only that one EPUB/PDF/MOBI file, when you right-click and confirm. (2) Sync library catalog — metadata (titles, authors, tags, language) plus optimized cover thumbnails. On a real 27,000-book library that's roughly 30 MB of catalog + 400 MB of covers (we tested it end-to-end and it works). Ebook files themselves stay on your PC and only flow when you tap "Listen" on a specific book. Never a silent background scan.

No. Sync uploads only the catalog. We tested with a real 27,000-book Calibre library: roughly 30 MB of metadata (titles, authors, tags, languages) plus ~400 MB of optimized cover thumbnails. The ebook files themselves — typically several gigabytes — stay on your computer. They only upload when you actively tap "Listen" on a particular book. The plugin running on your PC handles that fetch automatically; you don't have to be at the keyboard at the time of the click, but Calibre needs to be open for the request to be picked up.

Yes — the plugin runs inside Calibre, so Calibre needs to be open on your PC when you tap "Listen". The plugin polls every few seconds for fetch requests from your account, uploads the file, and you get a notification when the audiobook is ready. If your PC is off, the request waits in queue until next time you launch Calibre.

Night and day. MimicReader uses Chatterbox, a neural TTS engine with emotion detection, natural pacing, and voice cloning. It sounds like a real narrator, not a robot. In blind tests, it's preferred over ElevenLabs 63% of the time.
